Wheat Gluten

Xuzhou Anying Biologic Technology Development Co. Ltd. has been cited as the company that provided wheat gluten to the pet food producers whose products have killed cats and dogs. If you run the company name through Google, the page for the United Kingdom is still listing Wheat Gluten. The US page has been removed or changed.

Sadly, No! has the take on the likelihood of the FDA taking any steps to check the human food supply.

It's not very soothing to consider tainted products entering our food sources but one thing to consider in general is that, despite our pet's likliness to us, their companionship, etc., they are not humans.

Our physiology is rather more robust than theirs. A lot of drugs that help us out, even very simple ones, are poisonous to dogs and cats, and cats more so because they are rather more singular. A single "normal dose' ibuprophen will kill a cat dead by kidney failure. In fact all of the human NSAIDs will kill cats at very low doses. Dogs can apparently be given ibuprophen and aspirin for arthritis. For both dogs and cats, acetominphen is Right Out, it does really Bad Things to their livers.

Just saying. And I'm not sure how much foodstuffs we consume that include wheat gluten. I can see it in pet food, not as readily in human food.
